RADA SENT AWAY YANUKOVICH

Yesterday the Parliament of the Ukraine - the Supreme Rada- dismissed the Government of Victor Yanukovich who had "won" in the presidential elections and decided to form the Government of " people's confidence".

THE EUROPEAN OF THE YEAR

The European daily magazine "European Voice" gave the purse "The European of the year" awarded according to the results of voting among the readers to whom do you think? Don't guess as you'll be wrong as only the readers of that magazine could think of it. They gave the purse to the Premier Minister of Turkey Tayip Erdogan. Erdogan who was sentenced to imprisonment for 10 months and a big fine for "fomentation of national and religious discord" in 1998 was awarded for the reforms oriented to the entry of Turkey into EU. We can imagine what kind of reaction this information will evoke in our Armenia. To call "European" the head of the Government which refuses to recognize the Genocide in 1915 and blockading the neighbor independent country looks monstrous. It is monstrous as from the angle of normal human logic as well as from the angle of international democratic rights.
The most curious thing is that the success of the reforms in Turkey obliged considerably to the conservative, pro Islamic Government. Simply Erdogan was rather clever to understand the political survival of his party is directly connected with the Europeans criteria of freedom of speech and self-expression. As less democracy as more prohibitions. But at the same time even Nazi parties are registered in democratic Europe. Finally the Europeans themselves named the Turkey Prime Minister "the European of the year" and they are even agree to see Turkey in EU demanding of it only the recognition of Cyprus and some changes in labour legislation. But they didn't demand the raising of Armenian blockade and all the more, the recognition of the Armenian Genocide as a guarantee for beginning the negotiations on the entrance of Turkey to EU. The Europeans, to all appearances, are worried how to bring the Turkish citizens who are going to work in EU in strong limitations.
So it isn't cost to be indignant at Erdogan's new name. In the same way we may not to recognize the EU European as it doesn't demand from the candidate of its member the recognition of the Armenian Genocide and raising the blockade in Armenia. But as we recognize the EU and aren't averse to enter into EU then let Erdogan to be a European than not to be. And let Turkey to enter into EU than not to enter. It is better to have a European neighbor state with great reserves and big stipulations. And with the "European" Prime Minister.
