KHACHKAR IN THE STONE,
FIDELITY IN THE DOG

A LITTLE SMOKE ON A LITTLE FIRE

We have turned to a lot of standpoints about settling the NK conflict in 2006. We also haven't forgotten those who refused those standpoints. Anyway we should notice that some technical circumstances have been appeared in last years the comparison of which makes us suppose that something will happen if not the settlement in the coming year.
Thus, it isn't accidental at all that against the background of optimistic predictions the OSCE military experts of high planning group arrived the region who were in Gyanja the day before. The delegation has already been in some military units, has been introduced to the hotel and transporting-communicating substructures. The officials refused of easy contact with the press mentioning only that their mission will only bring about peace. The mission would leave from
Gyanja to other cities of Azerbaijan. The most interesting thing is that structure formed by the decisions of OSCE Budapesht summit in 1994 the aim of which, pay attention, is the preparation of the project of possible peacemaking action in the Karabakh conflict zone, was in Azerbaijan eight years ago for the last time. Let's agree that these group, which waited for 8 long years wouldn't come without any reason.
There aren't less interesting the comments of the Caucasian director of International Crisis Group Sabina Frizer in connection with the OSCE MG cochairmen last visit to the region. "Armenia has already receded from its demand according to which the NK status must be determined till the liberation of occupied territories", Frizer's stressing is sensational perhaps which she couldn't invent indeed. And that circumstance gives an additional element of intrigue to the newest standpoints on the prospects of settlement.
Finally, almost the same thing but with underlined diplomatic reduction the Russian co-chairman Merzlyakov said. To the question whether the dissents between the parties have been reduced the latter answered; "the field of finding versions has been narrowed both for us and the parties". As we see, there is a little fire under this smoke anyway.
