SELF-CENSORSHIP AS THE AIM OF THE AUTHORITY

The systematizer of projects on issues of "the Committee of journalists' protection" of Europe and Central Asia Alex Lupis said to "Azatutiun" broadcasting station; "The authorities in Russia and South Caucasus become more and more intolerant towards the free media. They base on special services of state officials, politicized courts, police and the Office
Of Public Prosecutor trying to frighten the journalists. I think all authorities in that region are against the criticism of the Government by journalists, the investigation of the corruption of the authorities and the infringements of human rights. And the aim of repressive policy, which is carried out towards journalists, is unique; make them to censor themselves. As when the journalist is engaged in self-censorship the authority has nothing to do and it answer to the censorship sounded from the international organizations; I do nothing, they censor themselves."

And if there are still persons who have Russian orientation I wonder,"- the leader of Republic party said to "Aravot" yesterday.
