WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN
I BECOME DASHNAK

Free deputy Ruben Hayrapetian said to «Aravot» on the occasion of news about his membership to «Prosperous Armenia» party; «I'm against the formation of such authorities on the eve of elections. I’ll not become the member of any party. But I also can become the member of Dashnaktsutiun party”.

WITHOUT WHITE GAUNTLETS

They say, when the palace revolution was being prepared at the beginning of 1998 and «national» powers were coming to replace the «anti-national powers» an official was asked; « how are you going to settle the NK conflict?» and that official sincerely admitted; “if we settle it anytime, we'll do it as Levon wanted to do but we'll say that it is a victorious version.” As it is known policy is a severe thing and white gauntlets are inappropriate here. Moral anger is also meaningless here especially when the current authorities have never pretended to high moral authority.

What is suggested in Bucharest is approximately the following; Armenian forces are withdrawn from 5 occupied territories during of which ways of communications are opened and refuges come back. Karabakh gets an «intermediate status” under international protection, peace makers are replaced and the problem of final status is delayed for unknown time. Maybe it should write some words about the referendum for saving «package» faces of the authority. There is no «package» here, because the «package” is a type of agreement which affirms at the same time withdrawal of forces and free or joined to Armenia status of Karabakh.

Unfortunately that version is impossible. But it doesn't mean that the conflict mustn't be settled. And if Kocharian and Aliev come to an agreement in Bucharest that agreement must be welcomed. There is no need to name those advantages which we'll get / and certainly Azerbaijan/ in case of making stable peace in this region. And let our authorities name that version triumphal; let them prove that it wasn't «stage by stage» version of 1997.

But no wonder will be worked in Bucharest. The only thing for what the presidents of both countries meet is to fail the negotiations making guilty the opposite party. We should say that in this strategic problem the positions of Armenia are stronger, Aliev who has been dazzled by oil Dollars thinks that he can get more. But that «strategic» victory is a poor consolation.
