| President Serge Sargsyan and PM Tigran Sargsyan have decided to be seriously engaged in science and education, and that intention itself is very greeting. We have doctors, professors, academicians whose scientific heritage is very doubtful. We have a lot of alumni who have never tried to work by their specialty. We have a lot of persons who left the school who are illiterate. Revolutionary reforms are required to change these famous vices, the realization of which the current authorities promise. But we should be ready that those promises will not be ignored, and the doctors and professors will not be against those reforms like the Soviet scientists who opposed to any amendments in the beginning of 90s. I am afraid this time it will be repeated as well.
The nostalgia in this case is the first enemy. Such nostalgic moods were noticed at Radik Martirosyan’s position. “If there was a candidate of science in a family, that candidate was the proud of that family 20-25 years ago. But now they if a family has 10 candidates of science it will not be proud. They will be proud of one own shop more, instead,”- Radik Martirosyan said to the journalist. I think he idealizes the past. Let me remind who the respectful people in 70-80s were: policeman, inspectors, prosecutors, etc. In this case the situation has not been changed; today illiterate people become oligarchs, parliamentarians, heads of districts etc. The difference is that the wealthy and powerful Soviet Union was able to give the scientists 150 ruble, which was not so much but was enough to live but no scientist can live by today’s AMD 30-40000. And the problem is just here; the state should decide how and at whom it should spend its money.
I do not know the receipt. It is obvious that the Soviet system of education and science, which has been conserved during 17 years, should be destroyed. Let’s not be afraid of this word in this case.
